The City of Sacramento’s Animal Care Services is currently impacted with adoptable adult cats and kittens, forcing the City Shelter to take drastic measures in dealing with this overpopulation. If adoption rates don’t increase, the City Shelter may be forced to euthanize their healthy adoptable cats and young kittens.

Animal Care Services encourages residents this summer season to consider adopting these healthy cats. The Humane Society of America estimates that 3-4 million cats and dogs are euthanized each year, due to overpopulation and a lack of adoptable options. As time and space quickly work against these felines, we are asking for your help placing our lovable and sweet cats in the warmth and comfort of a permanent home.

The City is currently offering a special 2-for-1 deal for their cats. Adopt either an adult cat or a kitten for $65 and choose a second one for free. Prices include: spay/neuter surgery, microchip, City license, collar, carrier box, five pounds of cat litter and cat food.

When you adopt a cat, you are saving a life and giving them a chance at a better life. Cats, the pet choice of Sacramento, can possibly provide up to 20 years of companionship. Independent and smart, cats can be easily trained. They also provide health benefits to their owners such as preventing heart disease, lowering blood pressure, and fighting depression.

To learn more about adopting an animal, please visit the City’s Animal Care Services Center at 2127 Front Street, call (916) 808-PETS (7387) or log onto www.SacPetSearch.com.
