Although many people labor under the outdated concept that dog's need meat, there are a growing number of folks who recognize that dogs can actually thrive on a plant-based diet.  The key to thriving on any diet is to have a well-balanced formula.  A pet food formula is extremely important, because many pets only receive this one food, whereas humans tend to have a large variegated diet, sourcing from a variety of foods.  Therefore, a pet food formula has to contain all of the essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals and protein that a dog needs to thrive.

A few of the large meat-based companies offer a plant-based formula as an alternative for "older" dogs, or dogs with "digestive" issues.  We maintain that a properly formulated plant-based diet is superior to virtually all of the meat-based products.  Moreover, most people do not want to know what goes into the standard meat-based dog food.

Although we do not have a large body of science on the advantages of a plant-based dog food, we do have anecdotal information, pointing to a longer and healthier life span.  The truth is that a dog is designed to eat meat or not, and therefore it becomes a matter of choice on the part of the guardian as to whether to provide a plant-based or meat-based food.  The decision rests on two points:  First, the health factor, and, secondly, the the moral issue of killing animals to feed animals.  Both considerations point to the significant advantages of a plant-based diet for dogs.
