We would like to introduce the new Animal Blood Bank at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Our community based canine blood donor program started last month and we are trying to get the word out to local dog owners. We hope to screen 1200 dogs every 12 months to create a large donor pool to serve the patients at our veterinary hospital.

Donors must be between 1-8 years old, 55 pounds or greater, current on flea/tick/heartworm preventative medications, and never have been pregnant. Initial visits to our clinic will be for screening only. We are seeking the canine universal donor blood type (DEA 1.1 negative). Those dogs that are DEA 1.1 negative will be given free yearly blood tests, valued at $300. (Please keep in mind that all costs related to the donation are paid in full by the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital).

Appointments are available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.

Please call 530-752-1393 to make an appointment.

For general questions, call 530-752-1393 or email caninebloodbank@gmail.com.
