Want your dog to be a canine good citizen?

Then come take the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Test.

What is it?  The purpose of the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test is to demonstrate that the dog, can be a respected member of the community, and can be trained and conditioned always to behave in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs in a manner that will reflect credit on the dog. The CGC Test is not a competitive program, but rather a program of certification; it seeks to identify and recognize officially those dogs that possess the attributes that enable them to serve effectively as personal companions and as members in good standing with the community.  Mixed and purebred breeds are eligible to participate.

Why should your dog have a CGC certificate?  Upon passing the CGC test, you may order a certificate showing your successful completion of the CGC program.  By having the certificate, many hotels, and restaurants, will allow your dog to stay or visit their establishments that they would otherwise not allow.

You may also order dog tags, bandanas, and patches to let people know your pooch is a Canine Good Citizen!

What's on the test?  To receive the CGC certificate, dogs take the 10 item Canine Good Citizen® Test. Items on the test include:

Test Item 1:  Accepting a friendly stranger

Test Item 2:  Sitting politely for petting
Test Item 3:  Appearance and grooming
Test Item 4:  Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
Test Item 5:  Walking through a crowd
Test Item 6:  Sit and down on command - staying in place
Test Item 7:  Coming when called
Test Item 8:  Reaction to another dog
Test Item 9:  Reaction to distraction
Test Item 10: Supervised separation

Evaluators will begin testing at 9 am until 1 pm.
