Hot summer days with bright blue skies and no where to go? Want to get Fido out but can’t bear the thought of walking around the block yet again?
Head on over to your local City Dog Park. The City of Sacramento Department of Parks & Recreation currently offers six off-leash dog parks at Jacinto Creek Park, Granite Park, Partner Park, Regency Community Park, Tanzanite Community Park, and Bannon Creek Park with hopes to develop additional dog parks across the City in the future.
Located throughout the Sacramento area, these parks boast at least 2 acres worth of space and also offer the following amenities: benches, lights, and turf areas. Tanzanite Community Park, Regency Community Park, Granite Regional Dog Park, Bannon Creek, and Jacinto Creek Park also have a drinking fountain for your dogs too, in case they get a little thirsty after running around.
The newest addition to the City’s dog parks was Jacinto Creek Park. Opened on July 26, 2008, this park features a special earth mound with an 85-foot-long dog tunnel that pets just love.
Letting your pet play around at these parks provides many benefits for both you and your pet. According to the American Kennel Club1, dog parks promote responsible dog ownership and allow dogs to exercise and socialize safely. “Dogs who are accustomed to playing with animals and people other than their owners are more likely to be well-socialized and react well toward strangers.” Also, bringing your dog to a local City Dog Park also gives you the opportunity to meet other local pet owners where you can share tips and stories while your pets run around.
Who says that you and your precious pets can’t have a little fun in the sun? Bring your pets, family, and friends to the park and enjoy the rest of our summer days in Sacramento.
