The UC Davis Vet Blood Bank is still seeking K9 blood donors! If your dog is 55+ pounds, 1-8 years old, current on flea/tick/heartworm medications and has never been pregnant, he/she can become a blood donor! The procedure itself is very similar to human blood donation and takes no longer than 30 minutes from start-to-finish. The first appointment is a screening appointment where a small amount of blood is taken to determine blood-type. If your dog is the "universal donor" blood type (DEA 1.1 negative), further blood tests will be performed... these tests run about $300 in total, but will be paid in full by the UC Davis Vet Blood Bank. If your dog is the universal donor blood type, we will ask him/her to return for blood donation appointments. The donation process is completely free to the donor!! To make an appointment, please call 530-752-1393 (M-F, 8-5). Please email caninebloodbank@gmail.com with any questions. Help save the life of man's best friend,...
