In my experience, having owned both cats and dogs, cats are much easier than dogs. When we had just a couple of cats we could travel and have a friend drop by and make sure they had food and water.
Now with a 1 1/2 yr old dog it's a whole 'nother story! She needs exercise and attention, and more exercise, and someone to sleep with her, and maybe it's just those guilt-inducing eyes...
