Happy Earth Day!

Thanks to all who shared their Earth Day tips with us and participated in our first ever Earth Day contest. Congrats to Raymond and chowsncats, who each received a basket of earth-friendly pet products.

Here is a roundup of the tips we received from our dedicated userbase.

doghairlovah suggested using biodegradable trash bags and dog waste bags, as well as pine-based cat litter. She also never brings bottled water to the dog parks.

msando reduces paper waste by printing only what is needed, printing double-sided, printing multiple pages per sheet, reducing the document margins and sharing and storing information electronically.

chowsncats gives yard clippings to the goats, stale bread to the geese and ducks and waters flower pots with old dog water. When they groom their dogs, they also leave some hair outside so the birds can line their nests with it. Very cozy!

kitster uses old coffee grounds to compost.

guitar54 offered tips for an earth-friendly dog run. He uses a mulching mower which fertlizes the grass and purchases ladybugs and praying mantis egg sacs every year.

klenzkat recycles everything from plastic kitty litter pails to cardboard food containers and reuses the rope from the old scratching posts to make new scratching posts.

Raymond reuses dog food bags as carriers for his dog.

luvmypit dries clothes on a clothesline, composts all kitchen scraps in a compost bin, recycles all recyclables and when washing vegetables, she uses the water that runs off to water her plants. She also buys local foods in season, organic when possible.

Great tips, all around! Nice job, SacPaws-ers!

I really want to know how Raymond reuses a dog food bag as a carrier for his dog. I can't quite grasp it, but maybe it is a wonderful idea that I am just not understanding. :-)
