I prefer a dog with some substance - one that I can actually do something with - I want a dog that is smart and active

Big dogs are better for many reasons; They make a better family pet, they are wonderful with children. They don't bark at everything that goes near them because they are not so small to be afraid of the siliest things. I raised my two children and my grandson now 5 was raise with a big dog. The best golden Retreiver ever. He was such a pal for him and he was my best friend. Sadly he passed this past June. What a wondeful family member the big dogs make.

BIG DOGS, head honchos, they are high in the sky. You don't have to bend over to pet your big dog. Mastiffs are super lovable. They are lap dogs. You don't have to worry about tripping over them in the kitchen, or something little under your feet. They keep strangers at bay and in awe of their size.

Bigger is better in my opinion. I have a beautiful 14 year old daughter and my 60 lb Rottie (he's still a puppy) scares the boys away! No need for a daddy with a shotgun to keep the boys away when Koda is around. He's worth all the $ I spend on dog food for that reason alone!!

Of course they are better! As others have said they are great protection. I have 3 rotties and a boxer and I feel perfectly safe living by myself. I can also go out and DO things with my kids. I can walk or bike the bike trails with my boy and feel safe that I won't be attacked! Of course they eat more, but at least their poos are easy to see in the yard! (LOL) They can pack MY stuff on hikes instead of me having to pack the dog. If people want a pocket pet get a hamster. So many of the little dogs have such horrible health issues, especially as puppies. They have a hard time maintaining blood sugar.

I love my big dogs no hiding in my purse here! Although it would be nice at times to have a "smaller" lap dog, my 75lb male Dal climbs into my lap as if he was just a tiny puppy! But I would not have it any other way. [oh wait their allergy meds would be MUCH cheaper if they were smaller!] :-))) posted by

Big dogs are better because they are are better protection, and helping to get you up the last leg of the hill when you are aout of energy... Could see a pocket dog as a blind guide dog...LOL Overall they are better for outdoor type activities, like hiking, going to the, or playing on the beach. especially if they can catch frisbrees...

Big dogs aren't so small that you can hurt them by playing with them! And if you can't play with your dog, then what are they for?

You can give a big dog a hug and actually feel a response. Great Pyrenees dogs always bring a positive comment !

Big dogs are better because they provide a sense of safety, are more fun to play with, are more fun to swim with and are easier to cuddle with! posted by

Absolutely love the big big dogs!!!! My husband and I currently share our lives with two Great Danes, Elsa and Xena. These two grrrrrrls are our 5th and 6th Danes to date, and hopefully many many more to come. Besides the obvious fact that they deter unwanted visitors, they are extremely cuddly and loving, will hug you just like another person and be your personal body pillow. I don't have to bend over to pet them and they bring a whole new meaning to being a lap dog. And when we go to our vet, they don't have to get up on that cold and uncomfortable metal table for an exam! And then of course, there's the conversation starter factor, they always attract attention, which I love! Big dogs are bigger than life itself!!!! And our lives are the better for them!
