We thought poison......
As you can see we are a family of Doberman lovers. Our featured boy is Constantine. That picture was when he was 6 months old and a whopping 88 pounds.
Two months ago my son passed by his crate to find him shaking away, his head was just going and going. Not a full body seizure but enough to scare me to death when I saw him. I have seen similar in animals that have been poisoned. I made him get up much to the chagrin of my husband and son. However I knew that he had to get up by himself, I had to know if he could walk without assistance. Clapping my hands and almost screaming at him I finally got him to get up. It took less than a minute for me to get him into the car and we made the 20 minute trip to the vet in half the time it normally takes. By the time we got our little man to the vet the tremors had ceased (just like taking your kid to the doctor with a fever :)) Luckily (or unluckily however you may look at it), he had another seizure in the exam room while we were there. Meds were given and we were sent home without him, both my son and I in tears wondering if we would be bringing him home at all. His sister the poor baby looked at us when we got home as if to say, "Hey where is my brother at? Did you forget him?" She was very quiet the entire day, strange for our little Lilith as she is about as hyper as they come, constantly on the move. About 3pm we received a call from the vet and my heart almost stopped when I saw that number flashing, I didn't want to answer it in case the news was the worst. However being who I am I sucked it up and took the call. He would be coming home that night to be comfortable as it was not poison that had sent him into the throws of a seizure. A catheter had been placed in his leg so that should we have to get him to the emergency hospital during the night they would have no problems giving him the needed medications to stop the shaking. Needless to say he slept in our bed for the next three nights, if we even felt so much as a shiver both my husband and I were up checking on him. It was a nightmare let me tell you. Three days later and thousands of dollars spent we finally have the news that he has Epilepsy (or so our vet tells us as previously they had been scratching their heads telling us they still did not know what was wrong with him). He is now on Pheno and has only had a few seizures since he has been placed on the medication. My story may be sappy to some but I just wanted to share our experience in case someone else here has had a similar crisis so they know that someone feels their pain. 0 comments from 0 users
