I tell the boys its only 5 more days, its only 3 more days until they will have their house back. I tell them every morning and evening. I think they understand they are getting happier. They are still hibernating when baby is out but they are much better. They are playing, fighting ( they didn't even fight thats how down they were) and very loving and talkative. All great signs that they will survive "the company". All will be right with the world come Friday. Hurray!!!
Sammy likes his walks since my aunt hasn't been able to I take him on walks when I can. He has a certain route my aunt always took him on and he knows it well. So well that one time Sammy got out of the house its rare but it has happened. On this particular occasion I guess he felt he needed a walk because he was found walking on his route happy as a clam. Meanwhile the rest of us my aunt especially was sick with worry. He was like no prob I can walk myself anytime. NOT!!!
Another interesting thing Sammy does is he stares at nothing but it looks like something to him. Does that make sense? Lol. Lets see if I can clarify. For example he will look at the corner of the room up at the ceiling but nothing is there and you can tell by his eyes that he is really intent like he sees something. I have gotten up close to see if it was a bug that we just couldn't see but I don't see anything. He also has this uncanny knack for appearing in one spot when one second ago he was totally on the other side of the room. And you don't hear him coming its like he just appeared. Thats why I call him the wonder dog or Houdini dog. He has a lot of tricks up his sleeve(or should I say furry paw) and he is very sensitive. I think most animals are sensitive to the people around them but some more than others and they show it any many different ways. Maybe when Sammy is staring off at something he is seeing his guardian angel or something like that ... who knows I guess only Sammy for sure.
Sammy the wonder dog. He is my aunts dog and I get the privilege of spending time with Sammy whenever I want. Especially now since I am helping out my aunt who is recovering nicely from her foot surgery. At first when my aunt came home and was in the cast Sammy was good, normal for him; he knew something was different and his mommy was hurt but he was still going up to her and was only scared of the wheelchair. But then after about 5 days he just woke up one morning and seemed scared of her, my aunt. Which was completely out of character for Sammy he loves his mommy and wants to be with her every second of the day. It was the strangest thing to watch he wouldn't go up to her in fact he would go sit outside and look in at her and all of us from the patio, totally new behavior. At first we thought he ate something outside that he shouldn't have that is his very bad habit. And in fact I am positive he did because he wouldn't eat that night and he got sick. This has happened before so we thought it must just be that, but when he got well he still acted scared of her and avoided her and would sit outside looking in--------very odd. Well it went on for a few more days and we put him on her lap and brought him around her so he would get over whatever it was that was upsetting him so and finally he is all better and doesn't act scared of her but he is still scared of the wheel chair and barks at it and runs from it---silly sensitive Sammy. I have been spending outdoor time with my boys Jon Jon and Percy every night around 7 7:30 . I noticed Jon kept looking up at the sky the more and more it got dark. We have a big Palm tree in the flower bed and he looks in that direction a lot. The Palm needs to be cleaned up it has dead palms that need to be removed(hopefully a project that will happen soon); I was told that rats and spiders and creepy crawly things hang out in those dead palms, great! So I was wondering if he is mesmerized with the rustle of rats in the tree. I haven't seen any but that doesn't mean anything. Tonight I was out there with him on the grass and it was getting pretty dark and I heard bats. I never new what bats sounded like until a friend of mine and I were sitting out one night and she said "hear that" and it was a distinct noise, one I hadn't heard. But I still wasn't convinced she had been known to "pull my leg "before. So to convince me she wasn't joking around, she said look up in the sky, just when it is still light enough to see, and when I hear the noise. So I did and guess what there they were, bats, to my amazement (mostly because she wasn't messing with me). I live near the river now and did at that time and I am told its easier to see them, the bats, if you live near the river. So tonight as Jon and I were hanging out on the grass and I heard the bat noise I couldn't see them, but Jon Jon sure hears and sees something. I would prefer bats because I know they are just passing through but the rats there a little to close for me but not Jon Jon he loves to look up and stare at the sky or tree. I am sure he is pretending that he is the great orange tabby waiting for his next conquest. After all, bugs get boring after awhile.
Well the next day after Percy's and my melt down. We were both much better. I talked to my partner and she really gave them attention. I made sure that no one invaded there safe spaces and that they have consistently had outdoor time. Plus we talk to them all the time and thank God its all working. They still do not want to be around baby but thats OK its best for both the cats and the baby at this time. And they only have a few more days until they have their whole house back. I tell them every day. So I am going to continue and hope they, Jon and Percy remain calm and feeling the love.
My poor baby cats. They just get over me being gone and now they are dealing with stress from house guests. Namely one very cute but very active 2 year old boy. I have been trying to give them extra love, which calms them down for awhile but they are use to having the run of their home and not being chased, or any loud voices. Can't blame them there, it breaks my heart to see them so miserable. Percy especially he looked so bad this morning I thought he was going to have a nervous breakdown. I have the house blocked off so the baby can't get to them in certain areas, though it helps. Percy I think is still scared that the baby will get to him so when I am home I spend time with them and talk with them like usual. I had a talk with my partner and explained what was going on I think she wasn't giving enough understanding to the situation and what the cats are going through. After all they don't know this is just for one more week, they are somewhat new to their home and I had been gone for 2 weeks. Things were and are not right in their world. And she has to make time to give them love even if it means going out of her way and finding them, like under the bed or in the closet or cabinet. They have the master bedroom and bath and a walk in closet. They could make a mad dash for the dining room which is blocked off to the baby, but the cats can get over the gate.Jon Jon will do that sometimes but Percy I have to carry to one safe spot to the other and he really prefers the MB. I take them out at 7:30pm to get fresh air and hang out. Which is a good time because the baby is asleep by then but still Percy is very sensitive and he is scaring me I think he is going to get himself so depressed that he is going to get sick. You should have seen him this morning. He was trapped in the dining room and I brought him in the master bedroom and talked to him, made my partner give him some love which she hasn't been real on top of that and as far as I am concerned you have to try to make your animals as comfortable as you can in stressful situations especially since they don't know its only for one more week and that we still love them just as much and make sure they are safe. Anyway that has been the new adventure of Jon and Percy. I will be soooooooo glad when they get through this one its starting to make me sick thinking they are so uncomfortable. And I don't know what else I can do!!!
Both Jon Jon and Percy love to sit in the windows like most cats. The other day when I was home for the day we were getting the guest room cleaned up; we recently moved into a new house and are getting around to fixing things up. We have a dining room filled with windows and I had opened the windows to get some air, plus the boys love it. A little time had passed and I hadn't seen Jon or Percy so I went looking. I had a funny feeling and I went into the dining room and the screen had been knocked out and there was Percy in the front yard eating grass. I freaked ran out the door looked quickly for Jon Jon, didn't see him. My heart starts beating faster. I yell Percy Jones get in the house he looks up with the most guilty look and high tails it in back through the window. It was a priceless look he gave. But where was Jon I am yelling Jon Jon and here he comes strolling from the neighbors front porch trying to look as innocent as he can he came up to me reluctantly and I scooped him up angry but so darn glad that he was OK I was having trouble scolding him. Hugging him and yelling does tend to give a guy mixed feelings.
Sammy has some interesting habits. My Aunts house is filled with windows and if you are outside you can walk around the house and you would see the various rooms. When my Aunt goes out of the family room she closes the door behind her to keep Sammy from getting into mischief in the other parts of the house. So she will leave him in the family room and go to her room. Well he hurries out his doggy door to greet her at the sliding door in her room then she will walk into her bathroom area and he will peer in the window there, then to the office there he is and the guest bedroom there he is...is is sooo cute. He even knows when she goes in the garage and goes to the side screen door and says hello there, dinning room and living room;there he is... she could give him a good work out just walking from room to room several times. Since she is out of commission some times he settles for following me around.
I have been staying at my Aunts helping her while she recovers from surgery and while I am here I get the pleasure of playing with Sammy. He is a beautiful white schnauzer. He has brought my aunt so much happiness since he came into her life.He has a great personality,he loves to play and run and chase poor little doves. Those are just a few of his hobbies. He is definitely a little character with much love.
One thing my partner told me that Percy has been bullying Jon Jon. Now every once in awhile this happens and we aren't sure why. This time it seems to coincide with my not being there and Percy likes lots of attention and sometimes gets jealous of Jon. So maybe he figures one person can't give him enough attention. Lol I don't know what it is but it makes it hard for Jon Jon. He is always watching out for Percy and not going to get love because he is afraid that Percy will attack. So we have or in the case of now my partner will go up to Jon Jon and get him and give him love. And if Percy gets too aggressive then she scolds him but he, Percy is still getting the same amount of love its weird. We have been trying to calm those waters for awhile now when it happens and I really haven't been able to find anything out there that tells me how to handle the situation so we give them love scold if necessary and it passes.
I was able to see my babies the last 2 days during the day. While my cousin watched my aunt. They were happy to see me thank goodness. I thought they might have forgotten me,silly, I know . We played and cuddled and Jon Jon kneaded and Percy came for hugs and scratching. They are shedding so I took them out on the patio and brushed them and they played a little. It was great I will be happy when I can be back with them every day. But I am glad I am able to do this for my Aunt.
It is so very hard to be away from my cats. I have had to help my aunt recently who had surgery, who is recovering well, but I do miss my babies terribly. I had an opportunity to see them last week for a little bit and Jon Jon my little orange pumpkin, started kneading on me and then he fell asleep on my chest. It was so cute and comforting to him as well as me. Percy my big blue eyed beauty gave me love too. His way is to come sit on you sometimes knead your thigh and purr to the heavens. He can purr so loud I swear the neighbors could here him. He likes to be scratched and touch you and then all is right in his world. They are both very unique but both show there love. Even when I am out of town or on vacation I am worrying about them its tough, I think for most true pet lovers to miss there animals and for me I can tell you its bad. I know they are in good hands and they love my partner as well but... I can't wait to be home with them hopefully soon. |
