Looking for a Yorkie puppy.
Hi, I am looking for a Yorkie puppy and I have no idea where to start. I would love to supise my family for Christmas with a new family member. We recently had to put our 14 year old Cocker down and we are feeling quite lonely. I have searched on several different sites and they range in price from free to $3000. I am not intersted in showing her or even breeding her. I just want a healthy, pure bred. I can't afford to spend an arm and a leg on a puppy. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Looking for a Yorkie puppy.
Hi.
I want to start off by saying I don't like the idea of a puppy being a surprise. Puppies are not good presents. Make sure everyone in the household is ready for a new dog. I know everyone is lonely but it can take a long time to heal after a dogs passing.
Anyway, have you looked into rescuing a Yorkie? There are breed specific rescue groups or check out your local shelter. Since your not looking to add to the pet over population problem (breeding) and your not interested in Showing her, shelter dogs come fixed, have shots, and are often already trained. Yes, rescues have young puppies not only "old" dogs. You will be saving a life and I can't for get to mention the huge price difference form adopting to buying!
If you don't want to rescue, know how to find a reputable breeder. Visit the breeders home, see the puppies parents, interact with them. DO NOT agree to meet in a parking lot!
Ask the breeder if you can see their paper work/vet records. Also, see if you can contact previous puppy buyers to check on their puppies health and temperaments.
Will the breeder take the puppy back if you can't keep her?
Ask about the breed. What does the breeder really know?
An easy way to find a reputable breeder, the breeder will be interviewing YOU. They don't want their puppies going to someone that doesn't know how to care for them or that will dump them off at a shelter when they grow up.
Never buy a puppy from any PET STORE or ONLINE!!! They are from Puppy Mills or Back Yard Breeders. Do your research on mills/byb's. This is good information to know if you don't already.
I think that's about it for now.....
personally, I think it's best to take the whole family to pick out their new furry family member. This way you will know if the dog gets along with everyone.

Re: Looking for a Yorkie puppy.
GREAT ADVICE!!! One more note about breeders - a truly good breeder is not in it for the money. They will insist that you give the dog back if, for any reason, you no longer want it.
Maybe you could meet with the breeder in advance see what you think of them and their dogs and once you find the breeder you like suprise your family with a visit to pick out the dog?!
Best of luck!!!
