This is Mai Tai with his many toys.
MAI TAI - The "Golden Retriever"
No, he is not named after a Thai restaurant. Yes, he is named after the drink.
It was 1999 and I was on vacation in the Cayman Islands. I had purchased a lot and was going to build my dream home in El Dorado Hills and that home would include a Golden Retriever. I had Golden Retrievers before but the current house I was living in, plus my work schedule, did not adapt well to having a Golden companion.
My new home would be designed with a "Golden in mind" a swimming pool, a spa that doubles as a "water bowl", grassy area to roll in, plus a private igloo and dog run to catch a good nights sleep without human interference. I also included floor to ceiling windows for all rooms so he could keep tabs on what is happening at all times.
So while on vacation, the discussion focused on when to get a puppy, what sex and what color. The date for the puppy would be when I moved into the house, the sex was male although I was flexible. But the name became obvious as I was sipping my Mai Tai on the beach while watching the sun set. I said I would like a Golden the color of the drink.
So I have an eight year old Mai Tai, who is the best "boy-dog" and friend I have ever had. He is the center of my family and provides us with endless hours of entertainment as we meet his demands for food, attention, play but most importantly - companionship.
